Character Tasting –
The Visual Characterization of the 4 Different Appellations

Our intention behind this production is to visualize the different characteristics of the 4 appellations of the Chablis Wines. All 4 of them (Petit Chablis, Chablis, Premier Cru, and Grand Cru) have similar characteristics, but at the same time very different and distinguishing characteristics that come through during the tasting experience. We feel that each wine has achieved their unique characteristics through the process that they undergo during the making. Therefore we set out to visualize them through a character journey animation. Through our animation each appellation becomes its own character. For example the Petit Chablis is the “young, rebellious, and slightly unstable teenager” and goes on to Grand Cru being the “Mature and Wise” character.

The characteristics were defined as follows:
Unstable Young Rebel (1st scene, Petit Chablis)
Self Seeking Youth (2nd scene, Chablis)
Calm and Collected (3rd scene, Premier Cru)
Mature and Wise (4th scene, Grand Cru)

The visualization of the character will show the development, or so to say the “hero journey”, that the characters undergo. The difference will be shown through the:
Movements, slowly progressing from rough to very smooth and elegant (pure) Colors, progressing from a darker shade to a lighter scheme that we associate with purity.
Sounds, progressing from choppy melodies and “harsh and aggressive” drum beats to an ambient melody followed with a drooning bass in the background
Most of this taste development we intend to relate to purity. The different appellations have their different characteristics with different (of course subjective) purity sensations. Then on, we integrated the minerality concept within the visual context (seen in styleframes and storyboard).

Our overall goal is to visualize the different sensations a consumer might experience while drinking the wine on a simple motion animation.

_____________
möglich in Szene setzen?
